Getting clarity

Focus the ability to eliminate distractions.

Before we can focus on something we must first define it.

  1. What does success look like at a certain age or time?
  2. What do you want?
  3. What are your priorities?

It would be fair to say most people haven’t taken the time to consider these questions. Even if they have, it’s always good to reconsider on a regular basis as our priorities and focusses in life can change and often do over time.

Due to Covid 19 we have all experienced uncertainty, isolation from family and friends, fear of the unknown and significant disruption to our lives. Through this unsettled time, the circumstances beg us to ask the question, what really matters?

It’s important to look through the right lenses before we are answering the questions posed above or we could limit our future because of our past experiences, may even justify that by saying “I’m just being real”. Here are some things to consider:

  • Have you got a positive mental attitude at the moment?
  • Have you got the courage to consider what’s possible?
  • Ask if I was 10 x bolder what would you achieve?

If you have considered these questions, you will be in a good space to start defining what your vision looks like. It can be a process and take some time, but it is well worth the investment as your future depends on it.

Once you have defined your vision, then you can break the vision down into goals. I would suggest focusing on defining your 12-month goals as a steppingstone towards your vision.  As you don’t know exactly what the future holds, you can adjust as you go and reset every 12 months unto, you achieve your vision.

From there you can break your 12-month goals further into monthly, weekly, daily activities required to achieve them. The key here is to focus on the activity, monitor and measure the results and fine tune performance.

Now you have clarity of focus and a plan you can be intentional with your time and efforts towards achieving your goals and ultimately your vision.

It’s important to have your goals and required activities front of mind daily, so you can focus. Anything that doesn’t take you closer to achieve your goals is potentially a distraction and waste of time and resources. Be aware, distractions are everywhere, it requires good discipline, practice, and support to stay focused for any reasonable period.

Keep the main thing, the main thing.

So, let me ask you some questions?

  1. Do you have clarity in your vision?
  2. Do you have 12-month goals?
  3. Do you have monthly, weekly and daily activities?
  4. Do you monitor and measure results?
  5. Do you have the activities and results required front of mind daily?
  6. Do you plan and be intentional with your time and efforts?
  7. Do you minimise distractions and have the right support to achieve your desired results?

As you implement your plan and endeavour to maintain focus understand you may have the odd bad day or even a few. I encourage you to stay the course, don’t beat yourself up or give up, as life happens.

Treat each day as new day to go again and never ever quit (settle). Choose to focus on your plan to achieve your goals. With consistent activity and focus over time you will achieve your Vision.
